Your Policy Communications Team in Brussels
- The most politically salient issues of the day are increasingly handled at EU institutional level. Businesses operating in Europe need to understand political and policy developments that represent future reputation and commercial risk.

Perception is reality
Our role is to help our clients to maximise their influence on political debates and decision-making process by ensuring that they are perceived as credible and committed investors and enablers of Europe's 21st century economy. Policy communications is becoming a more and more significant part of public affairs. Our clients are all-too aware of the importance of perceptions on their ability to wield influence. That is where our team of policy communications practitioners can provide added value on top of the 'traditional' public affairs services offered by our thematic practices.

Case Study 1: Profiling
Problem
The client is a global business think tank/member association. It has a strong reputation in the States, but this is not mirrored in Europe. The client thus wanted to implement a profile raising campaign, which promotes the brand to target audiences and build its reputation as a credible voice that delivers timely and relevant business insights.
Action
We first undertook an audit of the client’s existing channels and assets used to promote itself. Using our findings, we created a holistic campaign built around the 'PESO' pillars of promotion. We worked with the client’s research teams to identify their most newsworthy reports, which we we promoted across all channels. In parallel, we ran a messaging training session with each of the research leaders, to help them shape their value proposition and build a consistent narrative across their content outputs.
Solution
Thanks to our support, the client developed a stronger, more engaged European community following on LinkedIn. The Managing Director embarked on an outreach programme that allowed her to network with other influential individuals. Meanwhile, paid advertising targeted content more directly at the audiences that mattered to the client, driving traffic to their reports and increasing the attention on their brand.

Case study 2: Integrated policy communication campaign to influence MEPs
Problem
Our client, a trade association representing companies developing smart connected devices, came to us for support in running a campaign geared towards MEPs to ensure they voted in favour of a European Commission proposal for a regulation. Amid heavy lobbying and public campaigning from their opponents, the client wanted to increase its share of voice on the issue.
Action
We proposed a fully integrated, multi-channel campaign composed of web content, social media, digital advertising, media partnerships and direct marketing. We developed a narrative that first told the story of an unfair status quo for the client’s members, before calling on MEPs to be the heroes of the story by voting for a regulation that would bring fairness, competitiveness and consumer welfare to Europe.
Solution
We ran a 12-week campaign in the lead-up to the committee and plenary vote on the file which was heavily targeted at MEPs. The campaign massively heightened the visibility of the client, whose campaign messages were seen millions of times across multiple platforms. The levels of engagement on the campaign content significantly overperformed industry benchmarks, indicating that the client had gained a strong foothold on the issue. Ultimately, the European Parliament voted in favour of the regulation by a significant majority, so the campaign succeeded in contributing to the client’s ultimate end-goal.
